| Let me explain what I think about this unit. I have 3500 square feet house in Central Florida and top of the line heat pump Central Air just installed a few years ago. All works perfect except one thing: I have to cool the entire house with it and at 4500 Watts in case of power down my diesel generator at 6500 Watts is just about running it when 1100 Watts refrigerator and lights are on at the same time. Another thing is Central Air conditioner will get you over 250 bucks electric bill during summer and this is when thermostat is set to only 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, I ordered this unit thinking it is going to be so-so portable that can subsidize cooling now and then. The unit came in UPS, it is about 84 lbs, has wheels, is very quiet, does wonders drying the air, very nice quality built and components, remote, digital thermostat, can be converted to auto drain with just additional hose if you really must, runs on 1100 Watts, and is pleasant to look at. At 9000 BTU it is very nice gizmo indeed - no vibrations, smooth working and very well made. That very same day I received it and run it for entire day, I ordered another one just like it. I hope that explains how good and useful this thing is. Get one if you need one and you will be happy you did. BTW, packaging for shipping was absolutely exemplary - this thing would have to be dropped from 2nd floor on concrete to get damaged in all that styrofoam and cartons. I am very happy with this purchase. Remote is also quite handy when you use it in the bedroom at night. Water tank that had to be emptied is actually good thing, because no worries about over flooding the unit, and you can distilled water for ironing or car battery if you ever need that. The conversion adapter for continues water drain is included if you need that. I am somehow puzzled with negative review posted under Alesia, because I went to this individual's "see my other reviews" and there were like a HUNDRED of portable units, all with the SAME REVIEW and all purchased on the SAME DAY. That is very strange indeed. It is either mistake or overdose. Anyway, I think this unit is working well and it is worth the money. I use it already for over a month and it is better then ever. |
Very happy. Does what it's supposed to.

| Bought it about a month ago after fourteen years of fans, wet t-shirts over fans, standing with my head in the freezer, and (long) cool showers. :) VERY happy with it. I live in Oregon, so I only need it for few hot weeks a year. I've run it probably an average of 12-18 hours a day for 10 pretty hot days or so, and it has worked wonderfully. No more freezer hair! The first few days I ran it, I had to empty the water maybe once a day. These last few hot days have been more humid, and it gets about 3/4 full after 6-8 hours. I installed the window kit in a sliding glass window. I just used some wide packing tape to hold it and it hasn't budged. There is probably a fancier way to do it, but tape worked fine. Vent hose is kinda stiff but it's not too difficult to bend it how you want it. I'd say it's more like an accordian or a slinky than a dryer vent. Somewhat unwieldy, but workable. Yagottawanna! Anyway, keeps my small little abode nice and cool with the help of a 12" Vornado fan I use to boost the coolness to the back bedroom. Very happy with it. |
An Economical Way to Keep Cool When The Heat is On

| I am very glad I chose to invest in this product. After the July 4th weekend heatwave that hit nyc this year {and continues to bear it's hot&humid head}, I knew my living room window AC did not have a chance against the monster of a heatwave we keep having up here. And since I am not a summer fan, it was imperative for me to get a portable AC for my room b/c not only was I suffering from the humidity my fans were not relieving but I needed something economical as well. So I came to amazon.com and read a lovely review about this product that made me purchase it and it has worked for me since. It is small so it does not take up any major space and it is efficient and perfect for cooling/humidifying the air in my bedroom. It locks and keeps the cool air in and vacuums out the humidity in the air via the hose that sends it out the window. It also humidifies the air while it is doing all of this and you have control over what temperature you want to set. Now, for the first time after buying this product, coming into my bedroom feels like a cool relief this summer and not a frustrating sweat box. Some nights it gets so cool that it feels like it is getting cold. This product will definitely cool the room but it works best in a bedroom or a small/medium sized space where the air can really circulate at it's best. Another great thing about this product is that when the water tank is full and ready to be emptied, a red light will blink on/off to warn you to empty the tank. Once it's emptied and replaced, the machine will come back on and continue cooling at the desired temperature. And you don't even have to worry about leakage b/c it is leak-proof. This is definitely a wise investment for the economical shopper seeking a cheaper way to keep cool this summer. |

The SPT WA-9000E removes a lot of water in high humidity conditions, and cools a 30x30 space nicely.
Just know that the unit produces a lot of hot air, which is vented to the outdoors using the supplied collapsable duct (think dryer vent, but stiffer). The unit comes supplied with a window adapter thing, but since our house has a crawl space, we just cut a hole in the floor and vented the hot air thru the floor. We cut down the window adapter to fit and screwed the deal into the wood floor of the house....
The unit has a water catch pan, but if the humidity is over 50% the pan needs emptying every 45 minutes. The unit comes with a drain hose, however with the addition of a bit of short garden hose, it can drain out thatta way too. If your house is on a slab, you're outta luck unless there's a floor drain nearby.
The cold air outlet has a set of vanes than can be set to swing back and forth, which is a nice feature.
Hit on electric bill has been less than $10 a month with 6-12 hrs of use daily.
We placed ours adjacent to the main hallway of the house, where the unit can be turned to blow cold air into the kitchen, living room, or hall bathroom. We live in SE New Mexico, during the rainy (and hot) season this A/C is fantastic. It does extract a lot of water from the air in the house. No, we don't have central air conditioning, just a swamp cooler, which is useless when the outside humidity is >35%.
It works so well, the boy bought one of his own to cool his room. |
9000 btu portable air conditioner

I purchased this portable air conditioner because my very old central air conditioner broke down. It will be a while before it can be repaired. So with the 100 degree days we've been having. I desperately needed something to keep cool.
The portable air conditioner came well packaged. It was easy to put together. My only complaint would be the window adapter for the exhaust doesn't fit my window. So I had to adapt it to fit. Otherwise, the air conditioner is quiet and cooled my bedroom and even an adjacent area in about about an hour. Keeping in mind it was close to 90 degrees in the house. The water container holds about 2 gallons and took about 8 hours to fill on a VERY humid day. |
